Urban Development

The core of our work is centered on areas/neighborhoods within cities that are undergoing redevelopment and revitalization. These areas have great relevance, architecturally and socially, to the larger urban context in which they subside.

Our clients for these projects are developers and not-for-profit agencies who work closely with the local community and government bodies. In such projects, we are generally asked to work within an outline of both existing and vacant properties in a given area and determine with the clients what their best future uses would be for the community. Our proposed designs balance residential & community use requirements with commercial interests within the existing urban framework. Most of the existing buildings typically have historic value and their distinctive architectural style and bulk helps define their neighborhood and environment. Our designs have sought to preserve, whenever possible, the existing urban fabric and use the area’s notable features as a guide for design of newer buildings.

Urban development projects require extensive presentations and hearings to secure the satisfaction of all parties involved in order for the project to move forward. We are familiar when working through this process with our clients and strive to create a comfortable working relationship in order to prevent delays and stay on target.

Our resume of Urban Development projects includes various neighborhoods in New York City as well as ongoing projects in the Poppleton area of Baltimore, MD and East Miami, FL.
